MOSAIC OF MASS ANNUAL MEETING AND PICNIC - 2009
EVENT:
Don’t miss the MOSAIC of MA event of the year – our annual picnic! We’ll celebrate our 19th year as a club with food, fun, and friends. We will also have our (brief!) annual meeting where we will elect new club officers for next year. The picnic, once again, will be held at beautiful Hale Reservation in Westwood (10 miles west of Boston). We will have the usual opportunities for nature walks, swimming, and volleyball. We need volunteers to help set up, clean up and perform other important tasks. Please contact prez@mosaicmass.org if you can give us a hand.
RSVP: Mandatory. Because we must purchase food and supplies in advance, we are asking all members who want to attend to register in advance. Please send a check for $12 made out to: MOMC of MA, P.O. Box 1821, Brookline, MA 02446-0015. Please include your email address (preferred) or phone number. You will be contacted with directions (when we receive your check) or you can go to http://www.halereservation.org. Checks are due by Monday, June 23. Please remember that this is a “members only” event. If your membership has expired, or expires at the end of June (your expiration date is on your mailing label) or you would like to join, you must pay your annual dues to attend the picnic. Please download a membership form at http://www.mosaicmass.org and fill it out and include with your membership check and check for the picnic. If you have mailed your check bur have not received confirmation or otherwise have questions about registration, please send e-mail to sussmanj99@yahoo.com.
MEET: Hale Reservation in Westwood. Event runs from 11-5. Middle Eastern lunch (falafel, taboule, hommus, pita and more) will be served at noon and the Annual Meeting begins at 1 pm. Lots of other fun activities all afternoon.
COST: $12 by June 23. You must be a club member to attend.

INDEPENDENCE DAY SPECTACULAR IN SALEM

EVENT: Enjoy historic Salem for the birthday of our country! We will walk about 0.5 miles as a group to picnic and enjoy the bands, pops concert, and air force fly over at Derby Park by the harbor, culminating with beautiful fireworks. Dinner can be purchased in Salem or brought from home. After the fireworks (about 9:45), there will be an optional Salem ferry ride back to Boston (the ferry is 2 blocks from Derby Park). Last year, the ferry ride was spectacular and we witnessed the entire coastline's array of fireworks (including Boston's grand finale!). If you are planning on taking the ferry back to Boston (Salem is accessible via MBTA Commuter Rail for your trip *to* Salem), you should purchase a ticket as soon as possible; this option will fill up fast.
RSVP: REQUIRED (include a phone number and email address) for this trip as there are many options and details. Contact the TC by email, before July 3rd. Drizzle cancels.
MEET: We will meet outside by the fountain in front of the Peabody Essex Museum at 4pm.
COST: Return ferry cost is $13 +$5 non-members. Consult http://www.mbta.com for schedule and pricing for commuter rail service to Salem and http://www.salemferry.com for information on the Ferry.

WELCH DICKEY HIKE

EVENT: Join us for a moderate hike with surprisingly good views for a relatively low climb on the Welch Dickey loop near Waterville Valley in the White Mountains. (http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/white_mountain/recreation/hiking/welch_dickey.pdf) Forecast of moderate to heavy rain will cancel. If you have not hiked recently, please call or e-mail TC early.
BRING/WEAR: Hiking boots highly recommended as well as warm clothes, rain jacket, trail lunch/snacks and full water bottles.
RSVP: Required by July 8. (Minimum of 6 participants is necessary.)
MEET: Email TC, West of Boston area carpool meeting time will be 7 AM or meet at Welch Dickey trailhead at 9:30.
COST: Carpooling, snack money following hike, +$5 for non-members

SAILING ON THE CHARLES

EVENT: A chance to learn about sailing out on the Charles. Community Boating is having an Open House and I am very happy to take any one from Mosaic who wants to join me for a sail out on the River. We can cruise around on the Charles for a while and then go back into Town for a late lunch.
