Like most major cities, the Boston area is home to a wealth of
volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. While many local
synagogues, nursing homes, hospitals, and schools can all use your help,
the following is a list of some of the local agencies that specialize in
organizing volunteer efforts.
Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP)
- Boston's local Jewish federation can connect you with
opportunities in any of its constituent and affiliated
agencies.
Jewish Big Brother & Big Sister
- for over 80 years this organization has been
matching teenagers and young adults with children in need of friendship
and guidance. The Friend 2 Friend program allows individuals to do the
mitzvah of befriending a person with a
disability.
Gittel's Kitchen - located
in Brighton, this Kosher soup kitchen is open every Thursday night at
6:30pm. It operates under the aegis of the Maimonides School in

The Jewish Community
Volunteer Program - a program of the Combined
Jewish Philanthropies that facilitates volunteer work for everything
from tutoring to elderly care to odd jobs. For more information, call

Jewish Vocational Services of Greater Boston
- this organization empowers individuals from diverse
communities to find employment and build careers. Volunteers of all ages
give time and energy to assist JVS clients in job search strategies and

Service - this organization seeks volunteers for
programs ranging from visiting home-bound elders to providing advice to
