Frequently
Asked Questions
How
large is the club?
Mosaic of Massachusetts currently has an active membership of
approximately 200 members. We are constantly welcoming new members because
they bring new life and vibrancy to the club.
What
are the ages of the club members?
The club is open to every member of the Jewish community who is 21 years
or older.
Approximately
how many members turn out for a typical event?
The attendance at any particular event varies greatly and is a function of
many factors, including activity, location, weather, and level of
expertise required by the activity. Our members note that they’ve had a
wonderful time on some of our smaller trips of 8-10 members as well as
larger weekend events of 25-60 members. We hope you’ll agree: It’s
quality not quantity!

What are
the benefits of joining?
By joining Mosaic, you’ll receive our newsletter, the Shofar,
every other month. The Shofar contains a full description of each
event, the leader’s contact information, and news/articles about the
club, special events and outdoor/nature information. Your membership also
supports the continued existence of a Jewish outdoors club and helps us to
plan the activities that best serve your needs. If you would like to
sample the activities we offer before you join, anyone is welcome to
attend an event as a non–member for $5. If you decide to join the club
within 30 days of attending your first Mosaic event, we’ll apply your
non-member fee towards your membership.
How do I
join?
You can download a membership application from
this web site or contact our Membership chair. Please complete, sign, and return your application with
your check for $25 (individual membership) or $40 (family membership)
payable to "MOMC of Massachusetts." Your application will be
processed within a few weeks and you will soon start receiving the Shofar,
our bimonthly members’ newsletter.
We offer a 10% discount if you join or
renew for 2 years. The cost for 2 years for
individual/single parent membership is $45 and $72 for a family
membership.
Non-members are welcome to join the day
of the event by paying the annual $25 membership fee or they can pay a $5
single event guest fee. They may then deduct the $5 guest fee from their
annual membership fee if they join within 30 days by paying the additional
$20.
I'm
a member but haven't been getting my newsletter. When does my membership
expire?
Your membership is active for one year. The expiration date is located on
your newsletter mailing label. If you are not currently getting a
newsletter and believe that your membership is still active, please
contact our Membership Director.
If your
membership has expired, we hope that you will rejoin us by downloading the
membership renewal form and mailing it to us!

I
want to go a Mosaic event but I don't know if the activity will be too
easy or too hard for me. How can I find out?
The Trip Coordinator (TC) can give you more specific information on the
activity level of his/her trip. For our more rigorous trips, the TCs may
ask you questions to determine if you will be safe and comfortable with
the level of difficulty on the activity. All of our TCs will be happy to
answer any questions or concerns you may have.
What
do I need to bring to an activity? Your trip coordinator can tell you
if you need any special clothing or equipment, and if equipment would be
available to rent for a particular activity. For hiking and skiing events
in which the weather may change rapidly, we recommend that you wear
layered, non–cotton clothing. Our bicycling and inline skating events
require that you wear helmets. However, the most important thing to bring
to an activity is a good attitude! Remember that your Trip Coordinator is
a volunteer who also plans to enjoy the activity. In addition, if you
have any special needs or medical conditions, please be sure that your
trip coordinator knows about them beforehand.
Can
non-members come to Mosaic events?
Yes. Unless otherwise noted, all non–members are actively encouraged and
welcome to participate in all Mosaic activities and events. Non–members
are asked to pay a nominal $5 guest fee at the event. Non–members who join
the club within 30 days of their first Mosaic event can credit their
non-member guest fee towards their membership dues. Not a bad deal!
I
don't have a car, but would like to go on a Mosaic event. Do you arrange
carpooling?
While not responsible for providing transportation to/from events, our
trip leaders make every effort to accommodate
members without their own transportation. For most trips, however, we do
try to arrange a convenient starting point from which there are often
carpool options. If you would like to carpool with someone, please let
your TC know as soon as possible. He or she may be able to match you up
with someone who has a car and is willing to take riders, or else will try
to arrange for a pickup at a public transportation stop near the activity.
I
want to lead a trip for the Mosaic Club. Who should I contact?
Please
contact one of our Activity Chairs, based upon the type of trip you’d
be interested in leading, or our Program Director for further information or assistance.
